Persons with disabilities often face exclusion, and social and legal discrimination, directly
arising from the negative stereotypes attached to them. The solution to these issues is to
intensify raising awareness in the community. Actions such as maintaining children with special
needs in a parallel education system aside from the rest of society only further marginalize
children with special needs.
Education could and should be used to promote values such as
equality, diversity and to empower and integrate children with special needs. An inclusive
educational system is an important step to change the mindset of future adults towards persons
with disabilities. More awareness is also needed to encourage employers to recruit persons with
disabilities by stressing their abilities instead of their disabilities in order to favor their
professional inclusion.
